Signs and Wonders
When John talks about “signs,” usually he’s talking about a miracle. Turning water into wine, healing the sick, walking on water, feeding the 5,000, and so on. But John doesn’t call them “miracles.” He calls them “signs.” Meaning that their significance was not the miracle itself - as wonderful as the miracle was. No, the miracle pointed to something bigger, something more important–they help us understand who Jesus was and what he came to do in the world.
